Our day trip to Warragamba Dam was confronting, being there on a day that the weather was hot and humid just added a sensual awareness of the drought condition that we are facing here in Sydney and regional NSW. The water level in the dam and surrounding catchment area looked really really sad due to the drought.
May I be indulgent and say what I gleaned from the Dam Information Centre. “Back in the 1800’s during a drought this engineering project was built by raw manpower, thousands of labourers employed to dig, hack and shovel removing millions of tons of earth, bugger all today’s modern machinery they got on with it and built this magnificient structure”.
Thanks to those who had foresight to deliver clean water to the people of Sydney we cooled down in the air conditioined Bankstown Sports Club with a cold beer, lunch and a flutter on the pokies.
